Introduction
The agitation around 5G
There is a lot of buzz around 5G all over the place lately. This is reportedly a “revolutionary approach” in the mobile industry that will not only change the way telecommunications services are provided, but also completely reshape the business landscape in that area. It is sometimes even argued that these changes will affect our entire society — not only how people work, shop, study, and play, but in what perspective they will identify themselves as actors in today’s hyper dynamic world.
To many, this statement may seem like an exaggeration. The first thought that comes into mind when mentioning 5G is an increase in the speed of access to network resources. This is undoubtedly good (albeit quite expected) news, but is this improvement really that important at the present time? 4G already provides a very high speed — up to 1Gb, which, in particular, allows you to watch streaming video in maximum quality[1], not to mention other, less resource-intensive needs. Will businesses adopting 5G in their operations really enable them to deliver meaningful new experiences to customers and gain any significant benefits from it compared to those who do not?
